Reduced Fee ID

Accepting Reduced Fee ($.50) ID Applications

The following procedures are to be used when a customer is requesting a $.50 identification card.

If the customer is new to the system and does not have a previous Minnesota record, they are required to submit the form "Eligibility Verification for Reduced Fee ID Card" with their application.

If the customer has a Minnesota record:
  • Check the customer’s record.  Look in the RFID (reduced fee ID) field.
  • If the RFID field is marked “P”, the customer has a permanent disability and the
“Eligibility Verification for Reduced Fee ID Card” form is on file.  You can accept the application charging the customer $.50 and they do not need to submit the form.
  • If the RFID field is marked “T” (indicates temporary disability) the customer will need to submit a new “Eligibility Verification for Reduced Fee ID Card” form with the application.
  • If the RFID field is blank then the customer is required to submit the “Eligibility Verification for Reduced Fee ID Card” form with the application.

Possessing a disability parking tag, Limited Mobility, “A” indicator (Metro Mobility) or any “obvious disability” does not replace the requirement of completing the “Eligibility Verification for Reduced  Fee ID Card” form.

Remember, there is no such thing as a Duplicate $.50 ID.  All $.50 ID’s must be processed as either “Originals” or “Renewals” and a photo taken.  If the customer does not want a new photo and insists on a duplicate only then is the required fee of $13.50 charged.
