School/Tax Exempt/Type III Bus

School Bus:

This class of registration is for buses used exclusively for the transportation of students under contract with a school district, or used in connection with transportation of students for non-profit educational institutions. Issue a year validation sticker only. Do not issue a weight sticker.

Tax Exempt Bus:

These are school buses owned and used exclusively by public, private or parochial schools, colleges or other educational institutions for transporting pupils to and from these establishments. Use must be limited to transporting pupils to and from the educational institution. The bus may be owned by a church if it is used solely to transport pupils to and from parochial school.
 

"Type III Vehicle"

This vehicle is  restricted to passenger vehicles and buses having a maximum manufacturer's rated seating capacity of ten or fewer people, including the driver, and a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less. A "type III vehicle" must not be outwardly equipped and identified as a type A, B, C, or D school bus or type A, B, C, or D Head Start bus. A van or bus converted to a seating capacity of ten or fewer and placed in service on or after August 1, 1999, must have been originally manufactured to comply with the passenger safety standards.
