Higher & Lower Tax Registration

​Conversion to a Higher Tax Registration

  • Check the vehicle record to verify the current class, gross weight, and tax paid.

  • Determine the additional registration tax due by entering the weight and class change information in the Gross Weight Calculator on ESupport. Print the Conversion data page and attach it to a completed PS2000 form.

  • Complete a PS2000 form:

    • Section A – complete in full, including the empty weight. If registered over 73,280 pounds, complete the axle information.

    • Section D – indicate the date and exact time of the change, the date the change expires, the current class and weight, and the new class and weight.

    • Collect the conversion fee, plate fee, additional registration tax, and filing fee in the fee area. The applicant must sign.

    • Validate all copies of the PS2000. The applicant's copy serves as a temporary registration/cab card.

    • Indicate "Conversion" in the upper right corner of the application.

  • Issue new plates, year validation and weight stickers for the new registration class.

 


Converstion to a Lower Tax Registration

  1. Check the vehicle record to verify the current class, gross weight, and tax paid.

  2. Determine the refund amount or additional registration tax due by entering the weight and class change information in the Gross Weight Calculator on ESuppor . Print the "Conversion" data page and attach it to a completed PS2000 form.

  3. Complete a PS2000 form:

    • Section A – complete in full, including the empty weight. If registered over 73,280 pounds, complete the axle (5 or 6) information.

    • Section D – indicate the date and exact time of the change, the date the change expires, the current class and weight, and the new class and weight. Record the registration tax (if applicable), collect the conversion fee, plate fee, and filing fee in the fee area. The applicant must sign.

    • Validate all copies of the PS2000. The applicant's copy serves as a temporary registration/cab card.

    • Indicate "Conversion" in the upper right corner of the application.

  4. If the conversion results in a refund, complete the Claim for Motor Vehicle Refund form (PS2511):

    • The applicant completes and signs section A.

    • The deputy marks the appropriate box in section B, enters the current registration class, the new registration class, and the date of conversion. In section E, indicate if the plates were surrendered.

  5. Issue new plates, year validation and weight stickers for the new registration class.
