Rec. Trailer/Travel Trailer

A travel trailer is a trailer, mounted on wheels, that:
  • is designed to provide temporary living quarters during recreation, camping, or travel:
  • does not require a special highway movement permit based on its size or weight when towed by a motor vehicle;
  • complies with sections 169.80, subd. 2, and 169.81, subd. 2 (those sections of the law basically limit the dimensions of a vehicle to 102 inches in width and 40 feet in length, with some exceptions.

Examples are hard-sided travel trailers, fold-out tent trailers, fifth wheel or gooseneck-type travel trailers. Tax is based on the gross weight (weight of trailer fully equipped).
