Classic Motorcycle 
 

Reference: Minn. Stat. §168.105

Qualifications:

  • A motorcycle at least 20 model years old, original in appearance, and owned solely as a collector's item
  • Must be used in classic motorcycle club activity, exhibition, tour, parade, or similar use.
  • Sales Tax:: 6.5%.  The $150 flat tax does not apply.
  • Plate can be personalized - see Collector Class Procedures for additional information
Display/Plate fees: Refer to Special Plate Brochure
Registration: One-time $10 registration tax due with initial application.
Can you transfer plates?:  Yes, there is a $5 plate transfer fee.
 
 

Classic Plates

 
 

 Qualifications:  

  •  Only specific vehicles manufactured between and including the years of 1925-1948 are eligible. 
     
  • The vehicle must be identified as a “Classic Car” by the Classic Car Club of America Handbook. Refer to the CCCA List of Approved Classic Cars for eleible vehicles.  Customer may also provide:
    • A letter from the organization,
    • A copy of the page from the CCCA handbook or a print from thier website 
       
  • Vehicles that do not qualify are hearses, ambulances, trucks and recreational vehicles.
